The challenge:

“We want to encourage cross-departmental appreciation…”

Royal United Hospitals Bath

The Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust (RUH) provides essential clinical care services to communities across Bath, North East Somerset, Wiltshire, Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

With a workforce of approximately 5,000, RUH faced the challenge of uniting staff under shared values following two major acquisitions.

To address this, RUH launched a values programme designed to build a positive company.

A key part of this initiative was finding an effective way to embed these values across the trust, which led them to Mo.

RUH needed a solution that built a positive culture.

RUH recognised that to deliver exceptional care, they needed to unify their diverse workforce and empower employees to live the Trust’s shared values. Through an extensive engagement programme, RUH worked collaboratively with staff, patients and carers to define the behaviours they aspired to embody.

Central to this initiative was creating a culture of recognition and appreciation that aligned with these values. This required a platform that could:

  • Enable cross-departmental collaboration and appreciation.
  • Provide visibility into how teams were adopting and demonstrating core values.
  • Empower employees to give and receive meaningful recognition.

When RUH discovered Mo, they realised it could help them achieve these goals while making recognition an integral part of their culture.

What led RUH to Mo?

By implementing Mo, RUH created a framework for recognition that was inclusive, transparent, and aligned with its values programme. Employees were able to:

  • Share Moments of appreciation across teams and departments.
  • Align recognition messages with specific core values, providing tangible examples of those values in action.
  • Offer feedback and share ideas to continuously improve organisational culture.

Mo’s reporting capabilities also allowed RUH to track and measure recognition activity. The platform provided insights into which teams, departments and behaviours were being recognised most often, helping leadership identify opportunities for improvement and celebrate successes.

The first signs of results for RUH.

RUH has seen significant improvements in engagement and alignment since adopting Mo:

  • 45% of recognition Moments shared were tied to one of RUH’s core values, demonstrating strong alignment with the trust’s cultural goals.
  • 6% increase in employees feeling valued and recognised by management, contributing to higher morale and job satisfaction.

Mo has given us a way to visibly embed our values across the trust and create a culture where appreciation is part of our everyday interactions.
